Nominations for Medical Alumni Awards

Nominate Someone to Receive a Medical Alumni Award

The deadline for nominations for the following Medical Alumni Association Awards is November 10, 2017.  The awards will be made to alumni of The University of Alabama School of Medicine on March 10, 2018 during the Annual Awards Luncheon at Medical Alumni Weekend .

ELIGIBILITY

Alumni eligible for nomination include former students of the Birmingham Medical College prior to 1915, the Mobile Medical College prior to 1920, the School of Medicine in Tuscaloosa from 1920-1945, the house staff of The University of Alabama Hospitals since 1945, the Medical College of Alabama from 1946-1959 and the present University of Alabama School of Medicine from 1960.

NOMINATIONS 

  1. Nominations must be made by an alumnus or alumna of The University of Alabama School of Medicine.
  2. Nominations must be submitted by the nominator with a comprehensive letter and resume about the nominee, giving full particulars to his or her qualifications and any other supportive documents such as records of contributions to the Alumni Association, the community and the medical profession as practitioner, researcher, author, educator, etc.

SELECTION COMMITTEE

Consideration will be given to:

  1. The value of the candidate to the Medical Alumni Association.
  2. Individuals who have distinguished themselves both locally and nationally.

DISTINGUISHED ALUMNUS AWARD

“To recognize the individual’s outstanding contribution to the health of all people through basic research, clinical research, health services administration, health care, or others and demonstration of the high principles of the medical profession”  Travel and local expenses for the awardee to attend Alumni Weekend will be provided by the Alumni Association.

YOUNG ALUMNI AWARD

“To recognize the young individual’s outstanding contribution to the health of all people through basic research, clinical research, health services administration, health, or others and demonstration of the high principles of the medical profession by a young alumnus”.

GARBER GALBRAITH MEDICAL-POLITICAL AWARD

“For outstanding service to the medical profession” To one who has functioned especially well in the Medical-Political arena.

HETTIE BUTLER TERRY COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD

“For outstanding commitment to community service” To one who has contributed to the advancement of their community through volunteer efforts, philanthropic endeavor or both.

DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD

“For superior accomplishments and contributions to the University of Alabama School of Medicine”
