Gerhard A.W. Boehm, MD graduated from Duke University earning his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 1967. He completed his medical education at the School of Medicine in 1971, followed by a surgical internship at the University of South Alabama Medical Center. He spent his years in residency at
Emory/Grady Memorial/VA Hospital in Atlanta ending in 1976 after serving one year as the chief resident.
Dr. Boehm started his private surgery practice in Mobile in 1976 and spent almost 40 years in private practice before affiliating with Mobile Infirmary Medical Center in 2015. He is an adjunct professor of surgery at the University of South Alabama School of Medicine and serves as an associate member physician for South Alabama’s Mitchell Cancer Institute. Throughout his career, he has been greatly involved with the Mobile Infirmary Medical Center; serving on the Infirmary Health System Board of Trustees for ten years, President of the Medical Staff, Chairman of the Department of Surgery from 1984-1986, Chairman of Surgery Services from 1996-1997, and as an active member on the Mobile Infirmary Medical Center Foundation since 1988.
Dr. Boehm is active in multiple professional organizations including the American College of Surgeons, where he served as the Alabama Chapter President from 2000-2001, the Mobile Medical Society, American Society of Breast Surgeons, and the Medical Association of the State of Alabama. He was instrumental in providing high quality care to breast patients serving as the first director of the Multidisciplinary Breast Cancer Conference. This lead to Mobile Infirmary achieving accreditation as a National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) - the third in Alabama. He has also been very active in leadership of the Medical Alumni Association serving on the board of directors since 2008, in the positions of First District Vice President, President and Secretary/Treasurer.
Dr. Boehm is active in the Mobile community having spent many years in the sunrise rotary club of Mobile, Mobile Opera Board, and a member of the American Cancer Society Board of Directors. Dr. Boehm has been married to wife, Linda, for 43 years. They have two sons, Todd and Trevor, and one daughter, Kaylea, and six grandchildren. He enjoys spending time with his family and paddle boarding and bird shoots. An avid reader.
